According to Mohit's family, he sustained severe injuries while at the police station, which they claim led to his death. The incident has sparked protests, with demonstrators chanting slogans demanding strict action against the responsible police personnel.

In response to the rising tensions, the police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by Mohit’s mother, Tapeshwari Devi. The family has accused the police of inflicting injuries on Mohit, which they allege caused his death while he was in custody.

The complaint names the Chinhat Police Station house officer (SHO), Ashwani Chaturvedi, among others, as being responsible. Based on this, an FIR has been filed under sections BNS 2023 103(1) and BNS 2023 61(2) against Ashwani Chaturvedi and other unknown individuals.

Lucknow: Family Alleges 'Political Influence' Behind Police Brutality That Led To Death

Ramdesh Pandey, Mohit’s uncle, levelled serious allegations against the police, stating, "This incident is related to Deva Road, where there was an altercation, and Mohit was detained under section 151. Someone with political influence ordered his brutal beating. After his death, we were informed, but we still don't know the whereabouts of his other brother, who is supposedly in court.”

ADCP Pankaj Singh, who arrived at the scene, stated that the investigation is ongoing and will reveal the details of the incident. “After being brought to the hospital, it was discovered that he had died. Further information is pending as the investigation continues. The deceased is identified as Mohit, aged 32,” Singh noted.

According to the police, Mohit’s mother Tapeshwari Devi alleged that on the evening of October 25, her son got into a minor altercation with his neighbour Adesh Kumar, Indian Express reported. The police took Mohit to the Chinhat police station following a complaint. Later, Mohit’s elder brother Shobha Ram went to the Chinhat police station to find out about him and was also detained, purportedly on the grounds of being intoxicated.

The mother claimed that no action was then taken against Adesh considering his uncle's influence who is a political leader. The two brothers were housed in separate rooms, and then the police brought Adesh to the station a few hours later, she alleged. Tapeshwari Devi claimed that the police brutally assaulted Mohit leading to his death. They then allegedly transported him to a hospital to conceal the matter.
