The main accused in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sanjay Roy professed innocence during his polygraph test on Sunday, reported the Times of India. The agency flagged that Roy gave "false and unconvincing" answers during the psychoanalysis.
Roy underwent a polygraph test on Sunday by a pair of designated officers at Kolkata's Presidency Jail where he professed innocence. The polygraph test revealed false and unconvincing responses regarding his proclaimed innocence.
The accused claimed that the victim had already died when he spotted her and that he ran away in fear. He appeared "unnerved and anxious" during the two-hour questioning.
According to the report, he cited multiple alibis when the agency confronted him with several pieces of evidence.
The accused's state-appointed counsel stoked controversy earlier after she accused the agency of violating the guidelines of the National Human Rights Commission by going ahead with the test in the absence of a defence lawyer.
"CBI did not inform us when the test would be carried out," she said.
Following the crime, Roy had confessed to committing the rape and murder, said the Kolkata police. However, he took a U-turn later and claimed he was being framed and that he was innocent.
He was arrested by the Kolkata police on August 10, a day after the body of the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee medical student was found in the seminar hall of the medical college. Roy was arrested based on CCTV footage and a Bluetooth device found near the medic's body.
He was allegedly seen entering the seminar hall of the college where the body was found at around 4 am.
CBI has sought permission from the court to put seven people including Roy and former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Principal, Sandip Ghosh through the lie detector test. The results of the test cannot be used as evidence during the trial but findings give the agency a direction for the further probe.
