Kolkata Doctor Death: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that took over the case of rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata is trying to find out the involvement of more suspects in the matter. So far, it was believed that there was only one person involved in the rape and murder of the junior doctor on August 9. However, additional details from her autopsy now point towards gang rape.
While the Kolkata Police had made a quick breakthrough in the case, arresting one suspect, civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, on August 10, there were allegations of the ruling TMC trying to derail the investigation. After multiple PILs seeking a CBI probe in the case and a plea by the victim's parents, the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday (August 13) ordered the case to be handed over to the CBI. The central agency took over the case on Wednesday.

Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said: "We shall extend all support to the CBI in the doctor’s rape-murder case. We want it solved quickly." Reacting to the 'probe derailment' allegations, CM Mamata said: "We took all [necessary] actions in the doctor’s rape-murder case. Still, a malicious campaign [against us] is on. You are free to abuse me, but don't abuse West Bengal."
The CBI team, comprising forensic and medical experts, has said that it will examine the call records of the victim to check with whom she was in touch before her death. With the autopsy report details pointing towards gang rape, the victim's call records and chat history could point the CBI towards other culprits who might have been involved in the crime. The CBI will also check if the victim was being threatened or harassed by anyone in the days leading up to her death.
