The protesting doctors on Saturday refused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's offer for tea as they continued their demand for justice for the 31-year-old trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month.
The protestors said that they will have the tea only when justice is served.
Dr Aqeeb, who was part of the delegation that went to meet the Chief Minister said that the doctors demanded that the meeting be telecast live but the request was not accepted.
"...We were asked to come for an official dialogue at Kalighat, we went there - when we went there, we even compromised with our demand that the meeting be live telecast. We said to just record the meeting and once it is over, kindly provide us with that recording. The officials didn't agree to that," said the doctor.
"The CM came outside and requested us to have a meeting over tea - but the junior doctors said that we would have tea only if justice would be delivered. We later gave up on the demand of recording as well and just asked for the minutes of the meeting, but it was told to us that there had been a delay and nothing could be done now," he added.
On Saturday, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh and a cop were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for the delay in the filing of the FIR, and allegedly tampering with evidence.
Dr Aqeeb said that Ghosh's arrest showed that their demands were right adding "What he did was an institutional crime."
