Kolkata Doctor Death: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was once again criticised by the Bharatiya Janata Party after her move to transfer senior doctors and professors amid the ongoing protests over the rape and murder of the junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital did not go down well with the opposition.

Out of the 42 doctors who have been transferred, two — namely Dr. Sangeeta Paul and Dr. Supriya Das — were previously posted at RG Kar MCH, where the victim's body was found on August 9.

BJP alleged that the move added to the prevailing outrageous situation and that it was an attempt by Banerjee to intimidate the senior healthcare professionals.

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya, reacted to the state government's transfer orders, alleging that the Bengal CM was particularly targeting Calcutta National Medical College and Medical College Kolkata, which he called "the epicentres of protests against her fascist regime".

In a post on X, Malviya wrote: "On 16th Aug, West Bengal Govt’s Health Ministry has issued an 8 page long list of transfer orders, adding to the already chaotic situation. On Mamata Banerjee’s target is Medical College Kolkata and Calcutta National Medical College. These two are the epicentre of protests against her fascist regime."

He further stated: "So far, five professors from these two prestigious institutes have been transferred out to colleges in Siliguri, Tamluk, Jhargram etc. This is a desperate attempt to scare the senior doctor community into submission," asking Mamata Banerjee "What is she trying to hide?"

The doctors' associations also seemed displeased by the reshuffle which led to strong reactions from them. They labeled it a conspiracy by the Bengal government to intimidate the medical professionals.

'After Balatkari Bachao Now Doctors, Media, Citizens Ko Darao': BJP

BJP National Spokesperson Shehzaad Poonawalla also took to X to lash out at Banerjee for her transfer orders.

Taking a dig at the Trinamool Congress-led government, Poonawalla quipped: "TMC=Tanashahi Mansikta and Culture".

He said after trying to protect the culprits, the party was now going after doctors, media, and citizens to intimidate them.

"After Balatkari Bachao now Doctors, Media, Citizens ko Darao," he said.

"Instead of cracking down on gang rapists of Bengal RG Kar Hospital - Mamata govt is busy cracking down on those crusading for justice.. Mamata Banerjee is behaving like a real dictator Indira Gandhi or Kim Jong or Stalin would be proud of ! 43 doctors who raised their voices transferred by Talibani Fatwa. Kolkata police sending notices to Citizen’s & journalists raising their voices and threatening them to take down SM posts. 5000 goons sent to disrupt peaceful march and ransack crime scene and destroy evidence at RG Kar Hospital," he wrote on X.

He also claimed that the Kolkata Police was sending notices to citizens and journalists who raised their voices to demand justice for the victim, threatening them to take down their social media posts.

Ponnawalla further stated that 5000 goons were sent to the RG Kar MCH to" disrupt the peaceful march, ransack the crime scene, and destroy evidence" at the crime scene.

Urging Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to speak up on the matter, he said: "Meanwhile, those who say Sanvidhan Bachao are snoozing.. Rahul ji kuch toh bolo? This is happening even as HC is coming down heavily on Mamata govt & so is NCW. NCW Inquiry Committee uncovered lapses in security, infrastructure, and investigation in Kolkata rape-murder case of trainee doctor."

'Routine Transfer Order, Have To Think About Common People Also'

On transfer of doctors by Health Department, Calcutta Medical College & Hospital Principal Dr Indranil Biswas said: "We have got an order and that is a routine order (of transfer)...In our medical college, the number of faculty is less in some departments. So we have already asked for some replacement...More than 42 doctors of defined medical courses are transferred. It is an ongoing process."

"Every senior doctor is compassionate...All the doctors who are present here don't support this type of thing which happened to our students...When the students are protesting, we are also in favour of the students. So, no doctor of this institute is against the movement. But the thing is that we have to also think that common people should get the service,' he added.
