3 Bengaluru Students Dead As Speeding Audi Crashes Into Tree, Police Cite Rash Driving As Cause

Three engineering students from a Bengaluru university died after their speeding Audi crashed into a tree in Kolar. Police stated that excessive speed and rash driving were the primary causes of the accident.

Three engineering students from Bengaluru's Reva University were killed instantly, and another sustained minor injuries after their Audi collided with a tree on Kolar-Bangarpet road near Karnataka’s Kolar district in the early hours of Saturday. The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 am while the students were travelling from Kolar to Bengaluru. 

The victims, aged between 20 to 22 years, have been identified as Harshavardhan from Hassan, Basavana Gowda from Ballari, and Prajwal from Kolar’s Bangarpet, the Indian Express reported. The survivor, Sai Gagan, who suffered minor injuries, was seated in the backseat.

According to police, excessive speed and rash driving were the primary causes of the accident. Prajwal, who was driving the car, attempted to overtake a truck, leading to the car losing control and crashing into a roadside tree, as per IE's report. The impact of the crash was severe, causing the car to be mangled and ejecting the bodies 10 to 15 feet away from the vehicle.

Sai Gagan informed the police that the group was preparing for his sister’s wedding scheduled for August 11. They were on their way to Bengaluru to distribute wedding invitations, with Prajwal having borrowed the luxury car from a friend for the occasion, the report stated. The bodies of the deceased were transported to the mortuary of RL Jalappa hospital in Kolar.

Bengaluru Metro Disrupted After Man Dies By Suicide By Jumping Before Train

In a separate incident on Saturday, a 35-year-old man died by suicide by jumping in front of an approaching Metro train at Doddakallasandra station in Bengaluru. The identity of the deceased, who was run over by the train, remains unknown, PTI reported. Investigations are ongoing to determine the victim's identity and the reason behind his extreme action, officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) stated.

The incident occurred at 5:45 pm and led to a temporary suspension of Metro services on the Green Line between Yelachenahalli and Silk Institute stations. "As per preliminary information, a 35-year-old man has jumped in front of the approaching train at 17:45 hrs at Doddakallasandra Station," BMRCL said in a post on 'X'

Normal train services resumed on the entire Green Line at 8:45 pm. However, following the incident, a video shared on X showed stranded passengers walking along the small pathway beside the elevated track to reach Doddakallasandra station.
