In a bold daylight heist near Kerala's Thrissur district, a gang of 12 reportedly waylaid a car on the National Highway and kidnapped two persons. The gang also looted more than 2.5 kg of gold jewellery, according to police on Thursday. What was shocking about the crimes was the manner in which they were committed.
A dashcam recording of the incident, which quickly went viral, showed three SUVs [of the gang] surrounding the victims' car right in the middle of the highway. The incident took place in Peechi.

According to a report by news agency PTI, the police confirmed that a formal complaint was lodged on Wednesday and a First Information Report (FIR) under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was lodged.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred on September 22. The victims, Arun Sunny and Rojy Thomas, were taken captive after their car was intercepted by the three other vehicles. Arun is a businessman who deals in gold in Kizhakkekotta, while his friend Rojy is a resident of Pota. They were allegedly threatened with knives and axes and were even beaten up with hammers, reported news website Onmanorama.

The complaint also mentioned that both victims were assaulted, and gold ornaments valued at Rs 1.84 crore were looted from them by the gang. Arun was later released by the gang in Puthur and Rojy was dropped in Paliyekkera. The Peechi police are investigating the case and are going through CCTV footage from various locations to trace the culprits.
