Heavy rains that began on October 9 and continued into Thursday morning causing significant waterlogging across several low-lying areas of Hubballi. Continuous downpours transformed many major roads into flooded stretches with a few trees uprooted in different parts of the city.
The rain, which initially started with a heavy downpour on Wednesday evening, continued intermittently throughout the night. By early Thursday, the rainfall intensified, resulting in water entering homes in the Panchakshari Nagar area of Navanagar. Other low-lying areas such as Ganesh Colony, Anand Nagar, Shimla Nagar, PB Road, Dajibanpet, and Vidyanagar in Old Hubballi were severely affected by waterlogging, as reported by Udhayavani.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier reported that the southwest monsoon was vigorous over Coastal Karnataka on Wednesday, leading to widespread rainfall in the region. "Rainfall occurred at most places over Coastal Karnataka, at a few places over South Interior Karnataka, and at isolated places over North Interior Karnataka," the IMD noted.
On Thursday, the IMD predicted isolated heavy rainfall for Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts, with moderate rain expected in Dakshina Kannada and light to moderate showers across parts of North and South Interior Karnataka. With more rain forecast, residents in the affected areas are advised to remain cautious and take necessary precautions against further flooding.
The IMD had earlier issued yellow alerts for eight districts in Kerala, predicting the likelihood of isolated heavy rainfall on Thursday.
According to the IMD, the three southern districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta, as well as the northern districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, are expected to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
