A seven-year-old boy died on Saturday allegedly due to an injection overdose. The deceased Sonesh was a resident of Kenchapura village near Ajjampura town in Karnataka's Chikkamagaluru district. His father, Ashok, has lodged a complaint against a private doctor, Dr. Varun, accusing him of medical negligence.
According to police reports, Sonesh was suffering from a high fever, prompting his parents to take him to a private clinic for treatment. Ashok claimed that Dr. Varun administered an injection on Sonesh's back and sent him home, according to a report on IANS. However, after returning, the boy developed blisters on his back and was rushed to a private hospital in Shivamogga. Despite efforts to save him, Sonesh passed away on Friday, as per the report.
The grieving parents alleged that an overdose of the administered drug led to their son's death and filed a complaint against Dr. Varun. Preliminary investigations revealed that Varun held a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree, which does not authorise him to administer injections. The police have initiated an investigation and stated that legal action would be taken based on the findings.

This incident comes just days after another controversy in Karnataka, where a newborn baby died following a caesarean delivery in the Davanagere district. The family of the baby alleged medical malpractice and staged a protest demanding accountability from the responsible doctor.
In May this year, a 24-year-old man, who was addicted to drugs, was reportedly found dead in an empty land in Chennai due to drug overdose after he reportedly injected himself with painkiller.
