A glass pane of the Vande Bharat train was broken after stones were hurled at the train near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. The train, from Varanasi to Delhi was entering Panki Dham station when some people pelted stones at the train after which a case was registered against two people, said the Railways.
"On October 2, 2024, escorting party in-charge CT Vivek Chaudhary+01 (NDLS/POST/NR) of train number 22435 reported that the outer glass of coach C7 berth 33 &34 was broken due to stone pelting by an outsider while the said train was entering Panki Dham station," said the Central Public Relations Officer at North Central Railways, Shashi Kant Tripathi.
"The information was conveyed to IPF Panki Dham and GRP control Prayagraj. A case has been registered against unknown persons in the matter," Tripathi said, as per ANI.
Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad arrested two men, Shahid and Mohammad Hussain in connection with the matter, reported NDTV. The two had been accused of pelting stones at other Vande Bharat trains too.
Both the men said to be residents of Bihar, used to spread an atmosphere of fear through stone pelting on the Vande Bharat Express train.
According to the Railways, as the train entered the outer signal of Panki station at 7:05 pm, stone pelting began on the C-7 coach hitting the window pane. The glass broke triggering panic among the passengers who crouched under their seats, as per the NDTV report.
The train driver and the travelling ticket examiner (TTE) informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Panki about the incident and the RPF registered a case against unknown persons for damaging the property of the Railways.
