Four months after a businessman's wife went missing from her gym in Kanpur, police have arrested her trainer for allegedly killing her. The accused trainer buried the body near the District Magistrate's home, police said.

The woman had an argument with the trainer on June 24, following which he killed her, police said. DCP East, Shravan Kumar Singh said, "The incident occurred on June 24. The victim used to go to the accused's gym to train...The victim was particularly displeased about something and had a heated argument with the accused, after which the latter murdered her and buried her here... He dug a pit here and buried her body... He tried to mislead the case but when we interrogated him strictly, he revealed the truth."

The woman's husband Rahul Gupta earlier accused the trainer, Vimal Soni, of kidnapping her by giving her intoxicants mixed in protein shake. Police had scanned CCTV cameras in railway stations, bus stands and hotels while searching for them in June.

The police have now revealed that the woman was allegedly upset after the trainer's 'tilak', a ceremony held after the wedding is confirmed. On the day of the incident, she returned to the gym after 20 days and they later went to his car to have a conversation. Some media reports have claimed that it was challenging to trace the man as he did not use a mobile phone. Police had sent investigation teams to Pune, Agra, and Punjab to nab him.
