Chennai Air Show 2024: The skies over Chennai's iconic Marina Beach are set to come alive with an exhilarating air show, featuring India’s premier fighter jets, including the Rafale, Sukhoi-30 MKI, and Mikhoyan, among others on October 6. The event, to be held in honour of the 92nd anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF), will showcase India’s aerial prowess with a stunning display by 72 aircraft originating from Sulur, Thanjavur, Tambaram, Arakkonam, and Bengaluru.
The Suryakiran Aerobatic Team and the Sarang Helicopter Display Team will perform breathtaking maneuvers, while indigenously developed aircraft like the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas and the Light Combat Helicopter Prachand will take center stage.
How To Watch Air Show For Free
Indian Air Force will hold the air show on October 6, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Around 15 lakh people are expected to participate in the event which will be viewable in Marina Beach, Chennai (from Kovalam to Marina).
Rathish Kumar VM, Air Officer Commanding, Tambaram Air Force Station, shared that the air show can be witnessed from various vantage points along the East Coast. The main aerobatic performances by the Tejas, Sukhoi Su-30 MKI, and the Surya Kiran team will be held over Marina Beach.
"The team of the 92nd Air Force Day is 'Potent, Powerful and Self-reliant', keeping in sync with the team, our display is planned at Marina Beach involving 72 aircraft...the flypast which will be happening at Marina, will be witnessed from as far as Kovalam. Flypast can be witnessed from all the beaches from Kovalam to Marina. Main aerobatics OF Tejas, Sukhoi Su- 30MKI and Surya Kiran will happen in Marina," Air Officer Commanding said, as per ANI.
In addition to the flypast, a parade will be held at Tambaram Air Force Station on October 8, marking the grand finale of the celebrations.
Air Force Day Celebrations
It's also the first time that the Indian Air Force Day celebrations will be held in South India. The IAF has been shifting the celebrations away from Delhi in recent years to make its prowess known to a wider public with previous events held in Prayagraj and Chandigarh.
Efforts are being made to ensure a record-breaking attendance with state and central agencies coordinating the logistics for the event, which aims to enter the Limca Book of Records for the highest participation.
