Hathras Accident: The death toll in the Hathras road accident rose to 17 on Saturday (September 7) morning. On Friday evening, a bus hit a loader van from behind in Chandapa Kotwali police station area of Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, claiming a total of 17 lives, including those of five children and five women. Sixteen people were injured.
It has now come to the fore that rules were openly flouted as the van passed by at least four police stations. Local sources told ABP News that 35 people were illegally travelling in the loader van meant to transport goods. The leader van started from Khandauli and by the time of the accident, it had passed by four police stations. These include Khandauli, Sadabad, Chandpa, and Sasni police stations. But none of the police stations stopped the loader van. The accident spot is barely 10 kilometres away from the district headquarters.
The loss of life in a road accident in Hathras district is extremely sad. My condolences are with the grieving families of the deceased. Instructions have been given to the district administration officials to provide proper treatment to the injured. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed souls in his feet and provide speedy recovery to the injured.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister offered his condolence to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives in this road accident and directed the officials to provide proper treatment to the injured.
Hathras Superintendent of Police (SP) Nipun Aggarwal said that the accident took place on Friday evening near Kunwarpur village when the bus hit the van while trying to overtake on the Agra-Aligarh National Highway. The SP said that 16 people were injured and were admitted to the government hospital.
However, their condition is said to be critical. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Irshad (25), Munne Khan (55), Muskan (16), Talli (28), Tabassum (28), Najma (25), Bhola (25), Khushboo (25), Jameel (50), Chhote (25), Ayan (two), Sufiyan (one), Alfaz (six), Shoaib (five) and Ishrat (50). 15 of the deceased are from the same family.
On receiving the alert about the incident, District Magistrate Ashish Kumar and SP Nipun Agarwal also reached the spot. CM Yogi Aditynath has instructed the district administration officials to provide proper treatment to the injured.
He has ordered Rs 2 lakh compensation each to the families of the deceased in the road accident in Hathras district and Rs 50,000 each to the seriously injured persons.
