Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday announced that 'Agniveers' will receive 20 per cent reservation in state police recruitment. Back in July 2024, ahead of the state assembly elections, the BJP-led government had introduced a 10 per cent quota for Agniveers in the hiring of constables, forest guards, and jail wardens, as well as other government roles.
Speaking at a review meeting in Panchkula on Sunday, Saini stated that Haryana is the first state in the country that ensured job security for Agniveers following their service period in the armed forces, according to a report by news agency PTI.
By enforcing the Haryana Agniveer Policy-2024, the Haryana Cabinet has already provided security cover to the Agniveers. As per the official statement, the chief minister stated that 20 per cent reservation will be provided to Agniveers for the recruitment of state police.
Saini announced that Agniveers will have access to employment opportunities in Haryana after completing their Army service. A dedicated portal will be developed where they can register, and preference in job placements will be given based on their educational qualifications, he added.
During the meeting, officials informed Saini that 2,893 Agniveers from Haryana were recruited into the Army, Navy, and Air Force in 2023–24, while 2,227 were recruited in 2022–23.
Agniveers from the state interested in pursuing self-employment or entrepreneurship will be eligible for loans at concessional rates. Additionally, industries that employ Agniveers with monthly salaries exceeding Rs 30,000 will receive an annual subsidy of Rs 60,000 from the government, the statement noted.
Agnipath Scheme Launched In June 2022
Agniveers aspiring to work as private security guards will be given priority in obtaining firearm licences, for which they must apply through the portal.
The Agnipath scheme, introduced by the central government in June 2022, aims to recruit youth aged 17.5 to 21 for a four-year tenure, with 25 percent of them retained for an additional 15 years.
After the launch of the scheme, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had assured that Agniveers would be guaranteed jobs in the state after their four-year military service.
Sunday’s meeting was attended by Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sumita Misra, Principal Secretary of Sainik and Paramilitary Welfare Department Vijayendra Kumar, and Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Saket Kumar, among others.
