Two students of Government Degree College, Sogam in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district were killed on Saturday after the college bus they were travelling met with an accident in Handwara.
As many as 16 other students were injured in the accident as the bus, carrying 27 students for a picnic lost control and turned turtle near Vodpora area of Handwara, according to officials, reported PTI.
Kupwara Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan visited the GMC Handwara to take stock of the situation following the tragic bus accident, as per local media reports.
The DC interacted with the injured students and hospital staff and assured all possible help from the district administration.
CM Omar Abdullah Mourns Loss
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah mourned the loss of the two students and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured students, said his office in a post on X.
"The loss of two young promising students from GDC Sogam, in the tragic accident near Handwara is a tragedy that weighs heavily on all of us. My deepest condolences to their families in this hour of grief," read the post from the official X handle of the Office of the Chief Minister.
"Prayers for the swift recovery of the injured. We are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring all necessary assistance," the post added.
