Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to inaugurate the Gorakhpur Link Expressway on Friday. The 91.35-km-long access-controlled expressway is being seen as a transformative project for Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The inaugural events will be held at both ends, Salarpur in Azamgarh and Bhagwanpur Toll Plaza in Gorakhpur.
The CM will first address a public gathering in Salarpur after the formal inauguration and then travel via the expressway to the Gorakhpur end, where he will preside over another ceremonial event and deliver a speech.
All About Gorakhpur Link Expressway
The expressway begins near Jaitpur on NH-27 in Gorakhpur and connects to the Purvanchal Expressway at Salarpur in Azamgarh, traversing four districts, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar and Azamgarh. Built as a four-lane road (expandable to six lanes), the project has been developed at a cost of Rs 7,283 crore, including land acquisition.
The construction was divided into two packages: Jaitpur to Phulwaria (48.3 km) by APCO Infratech Pvt. Ltd. and Phulwaria to Salarpur (43 km) by Dilip Buildcon Ltd.
Expressway To Cut Travel Time To Delhi, Lucknow
The expressway significantly improves regional mobility, reducing travel time from Gorakhpur to Uruwa from one hour to just 20–25 minutes. It also creates a faster, safer route from Gorakhpur to Lucknow, allowing travel via the Purvanchal Expressway in just 3.5 hours. It is also expected to enhance travel connectivity to Delhi and Agra.
CM Yogi will flag off a dedicated UPEDA security fleet including Innovas, Campers, ambulances, cranes, and a Hydra vehicle. A rehearsal of the fleet’s deployment was held on Thursday.
The CM will also inspect the Kamharia Ghat bridge en route and participate in a plantation drive near Bhagwanpur Toll Plaza, planting a Harishankari sapling along with other ministers and officials.
Yogi will conclude his visit by interacting with workers and viewing photo galleries at both inauguration sites to honor the efforts behind the project.
