Chennai news: Tamil Nadu police conducted extensive raids at multiple hostels in the Potheri area near Chennai, following reports of drug peddling among private college students. The Potheri locality is known for housing several hostels for students from nearby private colleges.
During the raid, police detained 32 college students, including one woman. The detained students have been taken to a private marriage hall, where they are being interrogated separately to ascertain their involvement in the drug activities.
The raids are being conducted following reports of sale of cannabis (ganja) in these hostels.
Constables from Tambaram Municipal Police Department led the operation, seizing a large quantity of cannabis, cannabis-infused chocolates, cannabis oil, and other drug-related paraphernalia. Authorities are now scrutinizing the seized materials and questioning the detained students to uncover the extent of the drug network and its supply chain in the region. The raids are part of an intensified crackdown on drug abuse and trafficking in educational institutions across Tamil Nadu.
