Ferozepur: Three members of a family, including a woman who was set to get married soon, were allegedly shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants near Gurudwara Akalgarh in Punjab’s Ferozepur city on Tuesday afternoon. According to DIG Ferozepur Range, Ajay Maluja, the case is said to be of mutual rivalry. A probe has been launched to ascertain the reason behind the attack and efforts are underway to nab the assailants.
The police stated that five people were travelling in a car when they were attacked by six assailants. The family, all residents of Kamboj Nagar, were out for the wedding shopping, when they were surrounded by the assailants on two motorcycles, who opened fire at them before fleeing the spot.
The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Jaspreet Kaur and her 21-year-old brother Akashdeep Singh. Another 32-year-old Dilpreet Singh died during the shooting.The two other persons, who were present in the car, Anmol Singh and Harpreet Singh, sustained injuries and have been admitted to a hospital for treatment, Hindustan Times reported.
Upon receiving information about the shooting, the police rushed to the spot and set up a blockade around the crime scene. The assailants have been identified from the CCTV footage. The police have started searching for the assailants to arrest them. The reason behind the attack remains uknown.
1 Killed, 14 Injured As Truck Rams Into Tourist Bus In Punjab
In another incident in Punjab, a person was killed and 14 others injured after a truck rammed into a stationary bus on the Ludhiana-Jalandhar main road on the outskirts of the city in Punjab. The incident took place on Tuesday when the bus attendants were changing its rear tyre after a puncture, PTI reported citing police sources.
The bus was en route to Jammu and Kashmir's Katra from Haridwar in Uttarakhand when the accident took place. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Davinder Chaudhary stated that the injured were rushed to Ludhiana's civil hospital for treatment.
The doctors declared one passenger, identified as 40-year-old Suresh Kumar Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir, brought dead. Four other passengers who sustained serious injuries in the accident have been referred to PGIMER in Chandigarh, the ACP said. Further investigations into the accident are underway.
