RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday arrested the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh in connection with the rape-murder case of the trainee doctor. Abhijit Mondal, Officer-in-Charge of Tala Police Station has also been arrested by the CBI.

Earlier Sandip Ghosh was arrested in a financial irregularities case by the central probe agency. Following his arrest in the Kolkata doctor's rape-murder case, the junior doctors, who have been demanding his arrest, were seen celebrating at the protest site.

Demanding that CBI arrest those who tampered with the evidence, a junior doctor said: "We have been demanding the arrest of the former principal of the college Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal, officer-in-charge of Tala police station for their involvement in tampering with the evidence. We are very happy as the CBI has arrested them. CBI should arrest others also who have tampered with the evidence."

'Arrests Made Today Are Very Important': Bengal BJP

On the arrest of former principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala Police Station in-charge Abhijit Mondal by CBI, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said: "The arrests made today are very important. Especially the arrest of the Station In-charge of Tala Police Station... He was arrested on charges of tampering with the rape and murder case. The people of West Bengal were demanding for a long time that he be arrested."

He also alleged that the Tala Police Station in-charge must have received instructions "from above" to tamper evidence.

The Bengal BJP President also demanded the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. "My question is, can a small Station In-charge take such a decision? He must have received instructions from above... Naturally, the people at the top should be arrested... Vineet Goyal should resign right now or else the people of West Bengal will remove the Chief Minister from his post," Majumdar said.

Abhijit Mondal was later taken to BR Singh Hospital in Kolkata for a medical test.
