The Delhi Police have issued a traffic advisory for Monday as the festival of Janmashtami will be celebrated across the city. Many devotees will be visiting various temples from Monday evening till the early hours of Tuesday with prominent functions at multiple places, due to which route restrictions and diversions will be put in place.
The police also issued a traffic advisory for Monday as members of the Shia Muslim community would observe Chehlum, the 40th day after Moharram, commemorating the martyrdom of Prophet Mohammad's grandson, Imam Hussain. Some routes will be diverted as the devotees are expected to take the procession at 8:30 am on Monday.
Delhi Traffic Police Advisory For Krishna Janmashtami
Restrictions will be implemented around Laxmi Narain Mandir on Mandir Marg from 2:00 pm onwards on Monday. All vehicular movement will be prohibited from roundabout Talkatora stadium towards Mandir Marg up to Peshwa Road Mandir Marg T-Point and vice-versa. Similarly, no vehicle will be allowed on Mandir Lane from Roundabout Shankar Road to Mandir Marg.
Raja Dhirsain Marg from Eden Hospital (C-Block, East of Kailash) cut towards ISKCON temple will remain closed. Raja Dhirsain Marg from Sant Nagar Red light towards ISKCON temple will also remain closed from 8 am on Monday till 1 am on Tuesday.
Prominent functions celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna will be held at Laxmi Narain Mandir; Janmashtami Park (Punjabi Bagh); Adhya Katyani Shakti Peeth (Chhattarpur); Santoshi Mata Mandir (Hari Nagar); DDA Ground (Dwarka, Sector-10); Golok Dham Temple (Dwarka, Sector-10); Gufawala Mandir (Preet Vihar); and ISKCON temples at East of Kailash, Dwarka (Sector-13), and Rohini (Sector-25).
Given the Shobha Yatras and processions that will be taken out by many temple committees in various parts of the city, traffic will be diverted as per requirement, stated the advisory adding that no parking shall be allowed on the routes of the procession.
Delhi Traffic Police Advisory For Chehlum Procession
The main procession for Chehlum will start from Pahari Bhojla at 8:30 am on Monday.
The procession would move through Dargah Shah-e-Mardan and later on to Karbala, Jor Bagh (PS Lodhi Colony) via Bazar Chitli Qabar, Bazar Matia Mahal, Chowk Jama Masjid, Chowk Hauz Qazi, Ajmeri Gate, Pahar Ganj Bridge, Chelmsford Road, New Delhi Railway Station, Outer Circle Connaught Place (opposite side carriageway), Sansad Marg, Roundabout Patel Chowk, Sansad Marg, Rafi Marg, Roundabout Rail Bhawan, Kartvya Path/Rafi Marg crossing, Sunehri Masjid, Sunehri Bagh Road, Krishna Menon Marg, Roundabout Gol Methi, Tughlak Road, Aurobindo Marg, Jor Bagh Road.
The procession will reach Karbala, Lodhi Colony for burial.
Traffic will be regulated on several roads including Jama Masjid Road/Chawri Bazar Road, Ajmeri Gate Road, Barakhamba Road, Janpath, Sansad Marg, Lodhi Road and Jor Bagh Road.
Brij Mohan Chowk, AIIMS Loop, Q-Point, and R/A Mandi House are among some of the points where traffic will be diverted.
Some bus services may be terminated at the time of procession and vehicular traffic will be affected, the advisory stated.
For passengers travelling to New Delhi Railway Station, the police have advised them to leave in advance, particularly in the afternoon. "For reaching New Delhi Railway Station commuters should avoid Connaught Place and reach Ajmeri Gate side through Tilak Marg, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg or through Rajghat and Jawaharlal Nehru Marg depending on the movement of procession," said the police.
