A man in Delhi stole expensive items and jewellery from three houses in Dabri's Rajapuri on January 17. He committed the act to fund his trip to the ongoing Maha Kumbh in the Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh.


As per the NDTV, during questioning by the Delhi Police's burglary cell in Dwarka, the arrested individual, Arvind alia Bhola, revealed that he and his friends wanted to attend a spiritual gathering. However, he cited financial difficulties due to his family's economic situation, with his father working as a laborer, his mother employed as a housemaid, and seven siblings to care for.


This incident is not Arvind's first brush with the law, as he has a history of 16 registered theft and burglary cases. His first arrest occurred in 2020. According to reports, Arvind's struggles with poverty led him to turn to stealing to support his drug addiction.


Gang From Maharashtra Involved In Theft At Religious Sites Arrested In UP


In a similar instance, Police in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh have apprehended 7 members of a Maharashtra-based gang that was part of thefts at crowded religious sites, officials said on Sunday.


Seven members of the gang, consisting of five women and two men, were taken into custody by the Cantonment Police on Saturday evening. The authorities seized Rs 26,000 in cash, a gold bangle, and a vehicle from their possession.


This gang was infamous for targeting crowded religious sites across Uttar Pradesh, employing deceitful tactics to commit pickpocketing and theft. One notable incident took place amidst the Dhanteras festival, where they stole gold ornaments from a woman in Gorakhpur's Gorakhnath area.


They had also planned to strike at the Khichdi Mela held at the Gorakhnath temple but were apprehended before they could carry out their plan. The police acted swiftly on a tip-off, intercepting and arresting the gang members near the railway station.
