BJP MLA Neelam Pahalwan on Thursday raised the demand to change the name of Najafgarh to Nahargarh. While speaking at the Delhi Assembly, she said Raja Nahar Singh fought and included the Najafgarh region in Delhi's territory.
"In the 1857 revolt, Raja Nahar Singh fought and included the Najafgarh region in Delhi's territory. Despite several efforts, including through the them MP Parvesh Verma, we tried to change the name of Najafgarh to 'Nahargarh'," Pahalwan said.
Speaking to ABP News, BJP MLA from RK Puram Anil Sharma said Mughal ruler Aurangzeb had changed the name of this place, which now needs to be "corrected".
Sharma stated that there is a village in his constituency whose name should be changed too. "I will soon raise this issue in the assembly. If the name of a place was changed incorrectly in history, why should anyone have a problem correcting it?" he added.
Citing the example of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath renaming Allahabad to Prayagraj, he said, "Yogi Ji changed the name of Allahabad—what's wrong with that? The purification of names is necessary."
