There has been a surge in the extortion bids in Delhi as the national capital witnessed three firing incidents within 24 hours. While a hotel at south Delhi's Mahilpalpur area was attacked by some unidentified shooters early Saturday, some bike-borne assailants opened fire at a sweet shop in Nangloi later in the day.
A second-hand luxury car showroom in the national capital was also attacked in an extortion bid earlier today. Fortunately, no one was injured in the three firing incidents.
Firing At Sweet Shop In Nangloi
The latest in the three firing incidents took place at around 9:30 AM in Nangloi when two men with their faces covered came on a bike and opened three to four rounds of fire at 'Roshan Halwai'.
Police suspect the shooting was related to protection money of some gangsters as a slip was discovered from the spot after the firing. The note had the names of gangsters Deepak Boxer Bhai, Ankesh Lakra Bhai, and Vishal Bhai written on it, police told news agency PTI.
No one was injured in the incident but some glasses were shattered glasses in the shop. Police has collected the CCTV footage from the sweetshop and a probe is underway.
Firing At Hotel Near Indira Gandhi International Airport
At around 2.30 AM today, two bike-born assailants fired around five to six bullets at the main entrance gate of Impress Hotel in south Delhi. The hotel is located near the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident but glass gate of the hotel was damaged. Police has initiated a probe into the case.
At the time of the incident, the hotel staff and a few guests were present in their rooms. The hotel's receptionist, Khalida was also not present during the firing as her shift had not started.
She told PTI Video that the assailants "did not target anyone but they opened fire at the gate. Five to six rounds were fired they and fled."
Shooting At Second Hand Luxury Car Show Room In Naraina
On Friday night, three men opened fire at a second hand luxury car show room in west Delhi's Naraina. No one was injured in this incident as well but the attackers targeted the cars in the showroom. Four luxury cars including two BMWs, a Mercedes, and a Mini Cooper were damaged in the firing, NDTV reported.
According to PTI, it was an extortion attempt by the Himanshu Bhau gang. A slip reading 'Himanshu bhau since 2020' was also recovered from the spot. The gangster reportedly demanded Rs 5 crore from the showroom's owner as protection money.
Police said that the assailants had fired more than two dozen bullets inside and outside the car showroom. In a purported CCTV footage, three men can be seen firing at the cars parked in the showroom. One of the shooter could also be seen pointing his gun at one of the employees and a customer sitting inside the showroom.
