The student's death follows a series of extensive raids conducted by Tamil Nadu police at multiple hostels in Potheri, a locality known for housing several hostels for students from nearby private colleges. The raids, which took place last week, were initiated following reports of drug peddling among students. During the operation, the police detained 32 college students, including one woman, to investigate their possible involvement in drug-related activities.

The detained students were taken to a private marriage hall, where they were interrogated separately. Yet, police are working to ascertain the level of involvement of each student in the suspected drug trade.

The raids were led by constables from the Tambaram Municipal Police Department and resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of cannabis, cannabis-infused chocolates, cannabis oil, and other drug paraphernalia. The operation was aimed at curbing the rising drug use and distribution among college students in the area.
