The Central Bureau of Investigation stated before a Kolkata court on Tuesday that it is yet to find evidence proving the direct involvement of former RG Kar Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala Police Station Officer-In-Charge Abhijit Mondal. Both of them were arrested by the CBI last week in connection with the rape and murder of the Kolkata junior doctor on August 9. The victim's body was discovered in the state-run hospital's seminar hall.
The court also extended the CBI custody of Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal for another three days in the medic's rape and murder case. The CBI counsel had demanded for an extension of their custody since they were not cooperating with the CBI officers, news agency PTI reported.
The central agency informed the court that its sleuths were yet to get any evidence of gang rape in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case. The CBI counsel also stated that the probe so far revealed that both Ghosh and Mondal had spoken to each other several times on the day when the medic's body was recovered.

The call details of the arrested duo showed that they had also made several calls to certain numbers on that day, about which the CBI officials need to know. Therefore, the court extended their remand for another three days till September 20.
The CBI arrested Ghosh and Mondal in connection with the RG Kar rape and murder case on September 15. Besides them, three other accomplices of Ghosh were also nabbed by the central probe agency.
Ghosh, however, was already in CBI custody as he was arrested earlier on September 2 for his alleged involvement in the financial irregularities at state-run RG Kar Hospital.
Earlier today, Mondal was suspended according to the service rules of the West Bengal government, days after being arrested by the CBI. Ghosh and Mondal were also interrogated together on Monday by the CBI sleuths. They were seated face-to-face and asked to narrate what had happened on August 9.
A Kolkata Police civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, was arrested by the Kolkata Police in connection with the rape and murder case which is now being investigated by the CBI on an order of the Calcutta High Court.
