Nagpur: A nine-year-old girl was raped in Pardi area of Maharashtra's Nagpur on Sunday, September 15. The accused, who is yet to be identified, committed the crime in  front of her younger sister. He offered the victim's five-year-old sister Rs 20 to remain silent.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when the two girls were alone at home as their parents, both daily wagers, were away at work, a police official told news agency PTI.

The family, which hails from Gondia, had moved back to Nagpur three months ago. Since then they had been living here for the past few years.

Accused Yet To Be Identified, Probe On

The incident was brought to light when the victim told her parents about the ordeal after they returned from work. The parents immediately rushed to the Pardi police station and the victim was sent for medical examination. It was later confirmed that the minor was raped.

The five-year-old victim's sister said that accused was a Marathi-speaking man with a 'tilak' on his forehead. The police are suspecting that the man was someone who knew when the girls would be alone at home and was familiar with the timings when their parents left for work, Times Of India reported.

The report stated that the accused had entered into their home on the pretext of asking whether the parents were present. He left hurriedly after the victim raised an alarm to foil his initial attempt to sexually assault her.

In another incident, an eight-year-old girl in Shahpura was allegedly raped by her neighbour. The 44-year-old man was her father's friend. The incident was brought to light after the girl complained of severe pain. The accused was later arrested by the police, TOI reported.
