Patna News: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was shot dead by unidentified criminals while reportedly resisting a chain-snatching attempt in Bihar's Patna on Monday morning. As per the police, the victim was identified as Shyam Sundar Sharma, alias Munna Sharma, who was the former BJP mandal president. He was rushed to hospital after being shot but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.


The incident happened near Ramdev Mahto Community Hall in the Chowk police station area, where unidentified assailants on a bike shot the BJP leader. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, showing the assailants fleeing the scene on their bike after committing the crime. 






As per local media reports, Sharma was on the road to see off his relatives who came to attend his son's engagement ceremony on Sunday. He was wearing a gold chain, which the assailants attempted to snatch.






According to the Patna Police, they received information about the incident at around 6.15 am today. Police are examining the CCTV footage from the vicinity of the shooting incident and an investigation is underway to arrest the accused.


"We received information around 6.15 am that a man, Munna Sharma, was injured by criminals near a restaurant. He was rushed to a hospital by his family where he died while under medical treatment. CCTV footage around the spot of crime is being examined and other technical investigation is being undertaken. Further action is being taken," Chowk Police Station SHO Shashi Kumar Rana said.






According to Gaurav Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police Patna City-2, the chain Sharma was wearing was still around his neck at the time of dead.


"The FSL team has collected evidence from the site of the incident. A special team of police is reviewing CCTV footage. We are trying to find the reason behind the incident. Dial 100 team is also involved in the probe. The family of Munna Sharma has said that the chain he was wearing is still around his neck. Identification of one suspect has been done," he said.
