The BMW driver who was filmed urinating at a traffic stop in Pune, Maharashtra, issued an apology for his actions in a video message, promising to never repeat such indecent behaviour. A video of Gaurav Ahuja had gone viral on social media wherein he could be seen stepping out of his luxury car and relieving himself in the middle of the road in the city.
The video, captured by a bystander, showed Ahuja urinating at Shastrinagar Chowk in Yerawada, while another man, Bhagyesh Oswal, sat in the front seat of the BMW with a beer bottle. Ahuja had stopped his car in the middle of the road, stepped out and urinated near the divider, while the car doors remained open. An inquiry was launched after the video gained widespread attention.
Pune Police Detains Ahuja From Satara
Ahuja remained unbothered despite people moving away with disgust. He finished his job and sped away in his car. The cops suspected the accused was drunk at that time. Gaurav Ahuja later surrendered before the cops and was taken into custody by the Pune Police.
"I'm very shameful for yesterday's act. I really apologise to the people of Pune, Maharashtra, and India. I apologise to the police department and Shinde saheb. Please forgive me and give me a chance, it will never happen again," Ahuja said with folded hands.
It's not clear if the "Shinde Saheb" mention referred to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He had also mentioned in the video that he would surrender within eight hours.
Ahuja, who was absconding since the video came to light, was taken into custody later in the night from Karad tehsil in Satara district in Maharashtra. Oswal was also detained earlier in the evening from his residence on March 8, PTI reported.
A case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act against Ahuja, and his co-passenger Oswal for public nuisance, rash and negligent driving, causing danger on public roads and other offences after police was alerted about the video.
