At least four people died in the Siwan district of Bihar on Wednesday after consuming spurious alcohol, while 17 others have been admitted to the hospital.

Two people have been referred to Patna for treatment, while 15 others have been sent to civil hospital for treatment.

A legal action has also been taken against Bhagwanpur SHO and Prohibition ASI of the Bhagwanpur police station, District Magistrate Mukul Kumar Gupta said.

The toll is expected to rise even as the administration is investigating the exact cause of deaths.

However, locals maintained that the deaths were due to the consumption of spurious liquor, citing the physical condition of the victims.
