A 9-year-old boy was beheaded by a classmate in Barkurwa Dwarikapur Saatha village, Mansoorchak, in Begusarai district of Bihar on Saturday, leaving family members and locals in shock.

The decapitated body of the boy was found alongside a bloodied cleaver. The assailant, wielding the cleaver, initially tried to intimidate onlookers but was eventually overpowered by the crowd.

As per a report in Times of India, Police identified the victim as Ankush, who was a Class III student. He was lured away from his classmates by Vijay Kumar Mahto before being killed on the outskirts of the village.

The father of Ankush, Anil Kumar Mahto, responded by saying that he had no prior conflicts with the attacker and also claimed that Vijay had previously chopped the hand of his nephew.

Locals described Vijay as mentally unstable, a claim supported by Begusarai SP Manish Kumar, who confirmed the suspect's arrest and the recovery of the murder weapon. The SP dismissed any suggestions of human sacrifice, calling the act an isolated instance of extreme violence.

A year ago, another incident of beheading was reported from Dadra and Nagar Haveli on January 11, 2023, where a mutilated body of a nine-year-old boy was found in the Valsad district of Gujarat. Dadra and Nagar Haveli police apprehended two men and detained a teenage boy who allegedly killed the child as part of a "human sacrifice" ritual for “monetary benefits”.

PTI report stated that the child went missing from Sayli village in Dadra and Nagar Haveli on December 29, leading to a kidnapping case being filed at Silvassa police station the next day, December 30.

A search operation was initiated, and police discovered a headless body in Vapi, approximately 30 km from Silvassa, which matched the description of the missing child.
