An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in Patna, Bihar, purportedly shot himself in the head on Friday, November 1. His body was discovered in the barracks of the Traffic Operations Office at Ekta Bhawan, located in the Gandhi Maidan police station area. Central SP Sweety Sahrawat and a forensic science team arrived on the scene to begin their investigation. 


The deceased ASI has been identified as Ajit Singh, a resident of Badkagaon village in the Tarari police station area of Bhojpur district of Bihar. He was stationed at the police line and had been living in shared quarters, with several other officers.


Both the Gandhi Maidan police and forensic teams are currently investigating the incident. The City SP stated that a thorough inquiry is underway and all possible angles are being probed. The body has been sent for postmortem examination.

Cop Was Not Being Granted Leaves For Festivals


When asked if Ajit Singh was troubled due to being denied leave, the City SP said that all aspects of the case are being examined, with the forensic team also conducting an investigation. Ajit’s father, Vinod Singh, said that they had invited him to come home for Diwali, but he could not make it. When they asked him to come for Chhath Puja, he replied that he could only come if he was granted leave. 


Ajit Singh joined the Bihar Police in 2007 as a constable and received a promotion just four months ago. He is survived by three sons and a daughter. Before his posting in Patna, he was stationed in Bhabhua. One of his brothers serves in the army, another is a local businessman, and the third works as a loco pilot in the railways.
