Bengaluru News: A 30-year-old man attempted suicide at the Jnanabharati metro station in Bangalore on Tuesday. Siddharth from Bihar, narrowly escaped death after staff from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) intervened and prevented the suicide bid.
On Tuesday, Siddharth, who was waiting at the platform, jumped onto the tracks around 1:13 p.m. as a train approached, as reported by Indian Express. Reacting swiftly, security officer Rashmi activated the Emergency Trip System (ETS), cutting off the power supply and bringing the train to an immediate halt, according to BMRCL officials.
Although the train had already moved partially over Siddharth, he was unhurt and was rescued by the staff.

Train services were temporarily disrupted on the Purple Line, with operations resuming 15 minutes later. During this period, two trains were diverted to run a short loop at Mysuru Road instead of the usual route to Challaghatta station, ensuring minimal inconvenience to other passengers.
Further investigations by the police revealed that Siddharth is a BCom graduate and works as a salesman at an electronics store in JC Nagar, as per a report on New Indian Express. He is reported to have been struggling with financial problems, which led him to take this drastic step. Fortunately, due to the prompt response by the BMRCL staff, Siddharth was rescued in time and is now under police custody for further investigation.
However, the incident threw light on the growing list of cases where individuals have either attempted suicide or accidentally fallen onto metro tracks since last year.
