Former West Bengal MP Arjun Singh had a close shave on Friday after 10-15 crude bombs were hurled at his house in Jagatdal under the Bhatpara Municipality in North 24 Parganas district. "More than a dozen rounds of bullets were fired by these goons," alleged Arjun Singh.
"When everyone was busy in the Navratri Puja, several jihadis and goons under the protection of Namit Singh, an accused in the NIA cases and son of the local TMC councillor, and supervision of the local police attacked my office-cum-residence 'Mazdoor Bhawan'," Arjun Singh alleged.
However, Jagaddal MLA Somnath Shyam refuted the allegations. "These are completely false allegations. Arjun Singh himself opened fire at his home. His men hurled the bombs from the back," Somnath Shyam. Arjun Singh said that he sustained a leg injury from a bomb splinter.
Arjun Singh, a former TMC leader, joined the BJP in 2019 when he was denied a Lok Sabha ticket. He is a four-time MP from Barrackpore.
Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said the police personnel at the spot remained mere spectators and didn't do anything to stop the criminals. Adhikari posted a video of the incident and urged the DGP of West Bengal Police to use the visuals for nabbing these miscreants.
"This morning, prominent goons & renowned anti socials associated with the ruling Trinamool Congress Party attacked the home of senior BJP Leader & Former MP; Shri Arjun Singh, in Bhatpara; North 24 Parganas district. They even hurled crude bombs. As usual the Police played the role of mute spectator and didn't do much to deter the criminals. The video footage is enough to identify the culprits and arrest them for this heinous crime," he said.
