Agra News: As Diwali approaches, the Agra Municipal Corporation is ramping up its efforts to ensure a clean, festive season for residents and visitors. Recognising the high volume of waste generated during pre-Diwali home cleaning, the corporation has launched a citywide campaign encouraging residents to maintain cleanliness. Underlining the importance of proper waste disposal, the Agra Municipal Corporation has announced strict measures to penalise anyone found dumping garbage on public roads, with surveillance backed by an extensive network of cameras managed by the Agra Smart City team.
Diwali, a significant festival marked by extensive cleaning and redecorating, leads to a noticeable increase in household waste. To address this, the civic body is deploying additional garbage collection vehicles and urging citizens to cooperate by disposing waste only at designated collection points or handing it over to the city’s door-to-door waste collectors.
Stating that the corporation was committed to maintaining cleanliness during the festivities, Agra Additional Municipal Commissioner Surendra Yadav said a substantial amount of garbage is generated during Diwali cleaning, and to manage that the civic body is increasing its garbage collection fleet and monitoring public areas through 1,500 cameras across the Agra Smart City. Those caught littering will face action under municipal regulations, he said, appealing to all residents to use designated disposal points to keep the city clean.
CCTV Surveillance For Cleanliness Compliance
Agra's Smart City team is monitoring streets and intersections via a network of over 1,500 CCTV cameras, specifically targeting areas prone to littering. Any instance of illegal waste disposal caught on camera will trigger follow-up action from the corporation. This surveillance aims to curb the habit of dumping waste on the streets, promoting a cleaner environment for everyone to enjoy Diwali responsibly, Yadav said.
To accommodate the seasonal surge in garbage, the corporation has bolstered its garbage collection fleet with additional vehicles, focusing on ensuring efficient and thorough waste collection during Diwali. Officials are also issuing appeals to residents, reminding them of the importance of keeping Agra’s streets clean and reinforcing the ease of using door-to-door collection services.
