Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal started a conversation on the weekend about treatment of delivery workers by malls. The entreprenuer urged for kindness and called on the institutions to treat delivery executives with a more humane approach.

Goyal took on himself to deliver some orders in Gurugram and found out the issues faced by the workers in his experience. Sharing the same, he said that he was stopped by a mall in the area from using the lift to pick up a food order as a delivery executive. He noted that Ambience Mall staff told him to use the stairs to collect the order and tried to highlight the issues with this approach.

In a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Goyal shared a video of his experience. He said, “During my second order, I realised that we need to work with malls more closely to improve working conditions for all delivery partners. And malls also need to be more humane to delivery partners.”

On reaching the mall to pick up an order from Haldiram’s, Goyal was told to take the other entrance. He soon realised the mall staff was referring to stairs. “Went in again on the main entrance to make sure there aren’t any elevators for delivery partners,” he noted.

Notably, Goyal shared his experience of riding on Gurugram streets last week while delivering orders. He went out as a delivery executive with his wife, Grecia Munoz, and said, “Went out to deliver orders a couple of days ago, teaming up with @greciamunozp.”
