Zerodha co-founder and CEO, Nithin Kamath, revealed on Monday that he had a ‘mild stroke’ about six weeks earlier. The start-up founder shared his health update via a post on social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday afternoon.

Explaining the stroke, Kamath said, “Around 6 weeks ago, I had a mild stroke out of the blue. Dad passing away, poor sleep, exhaustion, dehydration, and overworking out —any of these could be possible reasons.”

The fintech founder stated that as a result of the stroke, his face started drooping and he found it difficult to read and write. However, he added, that his condition is improving now, with his face drooping slightly less and he is now ‘able to read and write more’. He noted that his recovery will take about three to six months. “From being absent-minded to more present-minded. So, 3 to 6 months for full recovery,” he said.

Kamath also shared his shock at the incident as ‘wondered why a person who's fit and takes care of himself could be affected’. He noted that his doctor suggested him to ‘shift the gears down a bit’, to help his recovery.

Kamath, with his brother Nikhil Kamath, together founded the discount broking platform Zerodha. The financial services company has become famous for providing a customer friendly stock trading platform, Zerodha Kite, along with other services.

Earlier in December 2023, Kamath said that he was nominated as a non-official member of the National Start-up Advisory Council (NASC), reconstituted by the government.
