WATCH: Farmer Denied Entry In Bengaluru Metro Over Attire, Security Supervisor Sacked Amid Outrage

The Bengaluru Metro security supervisor was trying not let the farmer use the train services, because he was "inappropriately dressed".

Bengaluru Metro on Monday dismissed a security supervisor accused of denying a farmer access to its train services, citing the individual's attire as "inappropriate." The incident, captured in a video at Rajajinagar Metro station on February 18, surfaced after a concerned commuter shared the footage on the social media platform, X (formerly, Twitter). 

The passenger shared the video on social media, stating: "Unbelievable....Is metro only for VIPs? Is there a dress code to use metro? I appreciate actions of Karthik C Airani, who fought for the right of a farmer at Rajajinagar metro station. We need more such heroes everywhere," he said. In response, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said: "Namma (Bengaluru) metro is an inclusive public transport. This Rajajinagar incident is probed and the services of the security supervisor is terminated. BMRCL regrets the inconvenience caused to the passenger”.

In a video shared by a commuter on February 24, footage captured the security supervisor at Bengaluru Metro station barring a farmer from using the metro services due to his perceived "inappropriate attire." A fellow commuter, waiting in line for a security check adjacent to the farmer, swiftly intervened, questioning the basis upon which the security staff denied the farmer access to the services.

He fought for the farmer's right as a citizen and asserted his entitlement to use the metro with a valid ticket and he did not have any items in his sack that are prohibited from bringing into the metro. He asked the security staff to show him a rule which mandated a dress code for metro commuters and questioned whether the transportation system was exclusively reserved for VIPs. Following the altercation, the commuter invited the farmer to accompany him and ensured his passage on the metro.

The video was later shared by many on different social media platforms criticising the BMRCL for the act of its security staff.
