The wedding season in India has been going in full swing. As such, hotels are clocking a surge in bookings, with several properties either going fully booked or completely sold out. This season is shaping up to be a record-breaker as many hotels record their highest-ever business figures after the Covid-19 pandemic.

A report by The Economic Times stated that some hotels have even seen their most successful wedding season ever in history. The report quoted Ashok Singh Rathore, area director for Rajasthan, IHCL and general manager, Rambagh Palace Jaipur and said that the wedding bookings in this year have managed to exceed all expectations. “Post-pandemic, our property has recorded the highest-ever average daily rates and occupancies last month,” he noted.

The executive said that typically room rates touch Rs 1 lakh during main seasons like Christmas and New Year, however, due to the wedding season, the rooms have been able to hit these prices earlier.

He informed that guests are now looking for more customisation and prefer iconic properties. He noted that the willingness of customers to spend has also increased.

Hotel chains have also benefited from the surge in the wedding season. Nikhil Sharma, MD and area senior VP for South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group, shared that the October-December quarter has managed to reach a new record for the highest revenue-generating period in the firm’s history in South Asia.

He noted that the hotel chain’s properties in Lonavala, Udaipur, Karjat, and Mamallapuram are witnessing elevated demand, with many dates already sold out as destination weddings become more popular.

Aloke Bajpai, Group CEO, Ixigo, stated that the boom in the wedding market has also impacted the travel industry. Flight bookings have climbed 70-80 per cent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis for metro cities and leisure destinations such as Mumbai, Srinagar, Jaipur, and Goa.
