Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, said in an X post on Wednesday that to support the people of Kerala amid the tragic loss of life and property caused by the recent floods in Wayanad, the conglomerate will donate Rs 5 crore to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund.
“Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in Wayanad. My heart goes out to the affected families. The Adani Group stands in solidarity with Kerala during this difficult time. We humbly extend our support with a contribution of Rs 5 Cr to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund,” the chairman wrote in a post on X.
"We stand in solidarity with the people of Kerala during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones and those who have been affected by the floods. We hope our contribution will help in some small way to alleviate the suffering and support the relief efforts,” he added in an official statement,
The Southern Naval Command deployed a disaster relief team of 68 personnel from INS Zamorin at Ezhimala to the areas in Wayanad, Kerala, affected by the recent landslides.
"Based on the request from the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), the Southern Naval Command dispatched a disaster relief team of 68 personnel from INS Zamorin at Ezhimala to the landslide affected site at 02.30 pm on July 30, 2024," the Southern Naval Command said in a statement on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, three landslides struck Kerala’s Wayanad within a span of just four hours, causing widespread destruction across the villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha. The severe weather conditions and landslides caused several people to be swept away in the Chaliyar River.
In response to the disaster, 45 relief camps have been established across the district to provide shelter and support. These camps are currently accommodating 3,069 displaced individuals.
According to an NDRF personnel quoted by news agency ANI, the ongoing heavy rainfall poses a risk of additional landslides.
