New Delhi: Responding to West sanctions, Russia approved a list of 200 goods and equipment on Thursday to temporarily prohibit their export from the country.

"The government has approved a list of imported goods and equipment that are temporarily prohibited from being exported from Russia. The decision will be effective until the end of 2022,” read a press release from the Russian government, as per ANI.

It has been adopted as a follow up to the ‘Presidential Executive Order On Application of Special Economic Measures in Foreign Economic Activity to Ensure the Security of the Russian Federation,’ the release added.

What are the items banned?

The list comprises over 200 products, including technological, telecommunication and medical equipment, vehicles, agricultural machinery, electric equipment, as well as railway cars and locomotives, containers, turbines, metal and stone cutting machines, video displays, projectors, consoles and switchboards.

Such items have been prohibited from exporting to all countries, excluding member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Abkhazia and South Ossetia, added the release.

"These measures are a logical response to those imposed against Russia and are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted functioning of key sectors of the economy," the economy ministry said, according to Reuters.

In fact, more actions might follow including restriction of foreign ships from entering Russian ports and allowing Russian airlines to register jets leased from Western firms as their own property, the government said.

The proposed measures come amid Western sanctions imposed against Russia's invasion of Ukraine aiming to cripple Russia's energy-dependent economy.
