Tamil Nadu Budget: State Unveils Budget With Focus On The '7 Grand Tamil Dream'

Finance Minister Thennarasu reiterated the government's commitment to social justice, welfare of marginalised communities, and empowering Tamil youth to become global achievers

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu on Monday unveiled the state Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, highlighting the realisation of the "7 grand Tamil dream," with a strong focus on social justice and women's welfare. Presenting the Budget, Thennarasu outlined a series of initiatives aimed at achieving the state's developmental goals.

One of the key highlights is the introduction of the "Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam" housing scheme, named in honour of the late DMK patriarch and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Under this scheme, the government plans to construct 8 lakh concrete houses in rural areas across the state by 2030, with the aim of eliminating hut dwellings.

In his Budget speech, Finance Minister Thennarasu reiterated the government's commitment to social justice, welfare of marginalised communities, and empowering Tamil youth to become global achievers. The Budget allocates substantial resources towards achieving these objectives.

Furthermore, the Finance Minister announced an allocation of Rs 300 crore for civic amenities, including the development of roads in areas adjacent to city corporations, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and connectivity.

Highlighting the state's progress in poverty reduction through various welfare schemes, Minister Thennarasu cited data from NITI Aayog indicating that the percentage of people below the poverty line in Tamil Nadu has reduced significantly to just 2.2 per cent.

The unveiling of Tamil Nadu's Budget for 2024-25 signals the government's strong commitment to inclusive growth and development, with a focus on uplifting marginalised communities and fostering sustainable progress across the state.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday launched several buildings, including classrooms and libraries across various districts, and took part in the foundation stone laying ceremony for new roads, with the aim of boosting public infrastructure in the state.

He took part virtually in the functions, a government release here said on Sunday In Namakkal, several classrooms built at a cost of Rs 80.85 crore for government schools across the district under the department of rural development were inaugurated. Stalin also threw open buildings that would house libraries under the school education department, which were constructed at a cost of Rs 48.56 crore.
