New Delhi: Indian Railways has decided to hike the platform ticket fare during the Makar Sankranti festival until January 20 this year in the southern regions. The railways have decided to hike the fares to regulate the flow of the crowd in view of the surge in coronavirus cases.


Which places will witness the rise?


Going by the notification of the South Central Railway, the platform ticket rates at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Lingampalli, and Begumpet railway stations and other major railway stations on Secunderabad Division has been increased during the festive season.


This has been hiked to avoid inconvenience to passengers and as a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19 during the festive season. 


In a tweet, the South Central Railway shared the hike will be a temporary rise in the platform ticket price. In most of the stations, the railways have doubled the fares while in Secunderabad station, the platform ticket price has been increased five times from the original price.

Earlier, the South Central Railway said it will run 10 extra Sankranti special trains for various destinations from the city in order to manage the extra rush of passengers.


Telangana on Sunday reported 1,673 fresh coronavirus cases pushing the aggregate to 6,94,030 while the toll rose to 4,042 with one more fatality, according to news agency PTI.


The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of fresh cases with 1,165, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri 149 district, the bulletin said, providing details as of 5.30 pm on Sunday. It also said 330 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours.
