Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman extended her condolences on the passing of the esteemed doyen of Indian industry and Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, stating that he has left an indelible legacy in society. "Saddened by the passing away of Shri Ratan Tata, a leader par excellence, visionary industrialist, and philanthropist whose contributions have left an indelible mark on our society," Sitharaman wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“His deep resolve to innovation, ethical business practices, and social responsibility transformed industries and uplifted communities. Extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His remarkable legacy will continue to inspire generations to come,” she added.

Several industry leaders also came forward to pay tribute to the visionary industrialist Ratan Tata. “Over the decades, generations of my family and I have had close ties with the institution of Tata. Ratan Tata epitomised the finest ideals of the storied Tata Group. Through his career and actions, he unfailingly demonstrated that business, at its best, is both a vehicle for economic strength and a catalyst for societal progress. His decisions have impacted lives and industries far beyond financial metrics. His legacy will inspire future generations of Indians to pursue success with integrity. India and India Inc have lost a true visionary,” said Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group.

Rishad Premji, the chairman of Wipro, called Ratan Tata an “extraordinary man.” “Mr Tata’s loss will be deeply felt. An extraordinary man, he not only elevated India’s presence on the global stage, but also truly institutionalised philanthropy. We are a richer nation thanks to him and poorer to have lost him. Go well, Mr Tata,” he wrote in his post.

Ratan Naval Tata, who passed away at a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday night at 86, was regarded as one of the world's most influential industrialists. He held a unique status as a corporate titan, and he was celebrated for his decency and integrity.
