New Delhi: Central Government has extended the last date for linking of Aadhaar number with PAN to June 30, 2021, in view of the difficulties arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.


The decision was announced by Income Tax Department on its official Twitter account.

"Date for issue of notice under section 148 of Income-tax Act,1961, passing of consequential order for direction issued by the Dispute Resolution Panel (DRP) and processing of equalisation levy statements also extended to 30th April 2021," the follow-up tweet read.



The Finance Ministry also released a statement in this regard which reads: "Representations have been received from taxpayers that the last date for intimating the Aadhaar number may further be extended in the wake of the on-going Covid-19 pandemic. Keeping in view the difficulties faced by the taxpayers, the Central Government has issued a notification today extending the last date for the intimation of Aadhaar number and linking thereof with PAN to 30th June 2021".


According to Section 139AA, it is mandatory for every individual to mention the Aadhaar number in their IT return along with the application for the allotment of PAN given they are eligible for Aadhaar. All those who have been allotted PAN as of 1 July 1, 2017, and are eligible to obtain an Aadhaar number are required to link their PAN to Aadhaar.


Earlier as well, the government has offered several extensions to link PAN with Aadhaar Card.


Those who are yet to link both can log on to the official website of Income Tax e-filing - incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. People will be required to submit details like PAN number, Aadhaar number, and holder's name under the Aadhar tab for the same.
