With one crore applications, the number of women aspiring to enter the working world in tier-II and tier-III cities in India increased by 13 per cent in 2023, according to a report released on Saturday by jobs and professional networking platform apna.co.

2.7 crore applications were received in 2022 from tier-II and tier-III cities, with 87 lakh of the applications coming from women seeking financial independence. In the year 2023, total applications received for tier-II and III cities were 3.2 crore, out of which 1 crore were from women candidates, reveals the report.

More than 100 job applications per minute from women candidates in tier-II and III cities indicates a turning point in workforce dynamics, the report said.

Out of these applications, over 80 per cent are for office-based roles, underlining the readiness of women to engage in the workplace physically, refusing to let the option of working from home limit their career growth, the report states further.

The report is based on the analysis of data on job applications and postings on apna.co platform in the years 2022 and 2023.

In addition, there has been a tenfold uptake in managerial job postings in sales support, enterprise sales, advertising, real estate, inside sales, brand and marketing and e-commerce, according to the report.

"Applications pouring in from women in tier II-III cities... totalling 1 crore. The surge reflects the unstoppable rise of women in reshaping our workforce," news agency PTI quoted apna.co founder and CEO Nirmit Parikh as saying.

According to the report, hiring of recent graduates is increasing in smaller areas, with 60 per cent of job postings in Tier-II and III cities aimed exclusively to attract recent graduates.
