Roshni Nadar, the chairperson of Hindustan Computers Limited (HCL), bagged the title of India’s wealthiest woman for 2020, according to the Kotak Wealth Hurun - Leading Wealthy Women. Biocon’s Kiran Mazumdar Shaw landed second on the list, she also bagged the title of the richest self-made woman on the list. Indian pharmaceutical giant USV’s Leena Gandhi Tewari stood third on the list.

Out of 100, there were 31 self-made women on the list, of which six are professional managers, and 25 are entrepreneurs. And, 15 per cent of the women on the list hail from non-metro cities.

According to Kotak Mahindra bank, the listing is based on the net worth of the individuals as of September 30. In the list of 100 women, 19 of them got featured in the ‘Hurun India Rich List 2020’, and six women have made it to the ‘Hurun Global Rich List 2020.’

With an estimated net worth of Rs 54,850 crores, HCL’s Roshni Nadar topped the list. The recently appointed chairperson of the IT giant has previously worked at Sky News UK and CNN America as a news producer. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the founder and managing director of Biocon, with an estimated net-worth of Rs 36,600 crores, landed second on the list. She is also the richest self-made woman on the list.

Landing on the third position, Leena Gandhi Tewari, the chairperson of the privately-held pharma company USV, had an estimated net worth of Rs 21,340 crores as of September 30.

Oisharya Das, Chief Executive Officer, wealth management of Kotak Mahindra Bank, while releasing the report said, “One of the defining developments over the last couple of decades is the giant strides that women have taken as wealth creators. The Kotak Wealth Hurun - Leading Wealthy Women 2020 report reveals an interesting and inspiring trend of more and more trailblazing women leading the way and scripting success stories across a wide variety of industries and encompassing cities and towns pan India. For India to achieve its aspirational target to be a US$5 trillion economy by 2025, women will continue to play a crucial role as wealth creators in order to achieve that goal.”

The Kotak Wealth Hurun - Leading Wealthy Women 2020, further said, that the average wealth of the women on this list is about Rs 2,725 crore. The threshold for the ranking is Rs 100 crore. Eight US billionaires are on the list, while 38 have wealth of Rs 1,000 crore and above.
