The E-commerce industry has seen a robust start to the festive season sales. The order volumes in the sector soared by 20 per cent during the first four days of the festive season sale in 2024 in comparison to the first four days of the sale last year. Notably, the sale this year was organised from September 26-29, while last year, it was held from October 7-10, 2023.
The data from e-commerce tech firm, Unicommerce, revealed that the gross merchandise value (GMV) during the period also increased by 24 per cent against last year, reported Business Standard. The data was compiled after analysis of more than 1.3 million order items processed through the Unicommerce platform during the early days of the sale to evaluate the trends for the year. The entity is an e-commerce enablement SaaS platform.
Elaborating on the findings, Kapil Makhija, MD and CEO, Unicommerce, noted, “Festive season sales have become an exciting phase of the year when everyone awaits the attractive offers and the extensive variety of products. While this continues as a trend year after year, we see an increasing number of brands participating in the sale season, affirming India's status as a digitally forward country.”
Amongst the products, fashion and accessories clocked major surge in volumes with more than 32 per cent growth backed by elevated demand for travel accessories, kids’ apparel, and watches. Meanwhile, makeup products accounted for 54 per cent growth on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in the festive sale.
