Wharton School Becomes First Ivy League College To Accept Cryptocurrency Payment As Course Fee

Wharton School becomes the first Ivy League College to accept crypto payment for its course, Economics of Blockchain and Digital Assets.

New Delhi: The buzz around cryptocurrency is on a high these days and with the market trends this high is now being accepted by many. Large multinational companies like Microsoft, PayPal are offering crypto as one of the payment options added to the acceptance of virtual digital currencies. 

A new addition to this bandwagon is the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. This Ivy League College stated that they will be accepting crypto payments for one of its courses which will commence from January 3, 2022. 

The course, namely Economics of Blockchain and Digital Assets is a six-week course scheduled from January 3, 2022, to February 20, 2022.

The course with limited intake will cost $3,800. The tuition fees can be paid through cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USD Coins. The crypto payment will be enabled via CoinBase, an American cryptocurrency exchange platform.

The course is designed in partnership with Prysm Group, a blockchain economic consulting firm, for professionals from the fields of business and technology keen on learning about blockchains and digital assets.

The course highlights include introducing a standard valuation methodology for digital assets — the Fundamental Token Valuation (FTV), case studies from seven business schools, and more than 50 videos of the lecture program. 

The programme’s academic director, Kevin Werbach said, “Blockchain and digital assets are not going away. We hope to equip business leaders, consultants, and entrepreneurs to identify the value drivers of these innovative technologies and to give them the practical understanding to build solutions.”

The programme partners for this course include Amazon Web Services, Algorand among others. The course would also include guest speakers from World Economic Forum, Forbes, Litecoin, the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), and others.

While Wharton School has become the first Ivy League College to accept cryptocurrencies, the King’s College in the US was the first educational institution to accept payment through Bitcoin.
