Ever since the outbreak of novel Coronavirus, India has been witnessing a continuous surge in the number of infected cases. In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has designed a standard Covid-19 specific product addressing basic health insurance needs of insuring public with common policy wordings across the industry. The authority has mandated general and health insurers to offer this indemnity based Individual Covid Standard Health Policy called 'Corona Kavach'. It is a premium and limited period policy without any lifelong renewability benefits.

As per the instructions, the policy can be availed by persons between the age of 18 to 65 years. Policy can be availed for self, spouse, parents, parents-in-law and dependent children up to 25 years of age. Sum insured on an annual basis ranges from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh.

How To Avail Corona Kavach Policy?

Step 1: In order to buy Corona Kavach Policy, visit the official website of the respective insurer. Some of the Insurers to consider are: HDFC ERGO, SBI General Insurance Company, Star Health Insurance, etc

Step 2: Under Health Insurance plans, search for 'Corona Kavach Policy'.

Step 3: Thoroughly read the terms and conditions of the plan and if satisfied, provide the required information such as your name, DOB, age, contact number.

Step 4: Choose the sum insured and policy tenure as per your convenience.

Step 5: Proceed to make the due payment using available payment options.

Soon after you make the payment, the insurer will send you the policy documents on your registered address as well as on your e-mail id.

In case you seek to claim for the Corona Kavack Policy, the procedure to do the same is similar to any regular health insurance plan. The customer has to inform the insurance company as soon as possible.

In case of cashless claim, a pre-authorisation form has to be submitted while in case of reimbursement, the customer has to pay the expended for the treatment and then ask for the reimbursement by sharing the necessary documents. Once approved, the company will soon settle the amount directly at the hospital or reimburse the same.
