Narendra Modi-led NDA government on Wednesday laid out its full and final Union Budget on Wednesday ahead of the general election scheduled for 2024. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her fifth Budget presentation allocated a whopping Rs 45.03 lakh crore for the financial year 2023. In the financial year 2022-23, the government allocated Rs 39.45 lakh crore for the annual Union Budget. 


During her Budget speech, Sithraman cited a blueprint for India@100. According to the Budget at a glance document, "The total expenditure in (Budget Estimate) BE 2023-24 is estimated at Rs 45,03,097 crore, of which the total capital expenditure is Rs 10,00,961 crore.” 


It said that the Budget reflects continuing strong commitment of the government to boost economic growth by investing in infrastructure development leading to an increase in capital expenditure by 37.4 per cent over (Revised Estimate) RE 2022-23. Effective Capital Expenditure, at Rs 13,70,949 crore in BE 2023-24, shows an increase of 30.1 per cent over RE 2022-23.
